Time Spent at Green Acres

One of the things that makes The Dam* Dam House so special is that the property itself becomes part of the trip. Many guests arrive with plans to spend most of their time exploring Nolin Lake and Mammoth Cave, only to realize they want to spend just as much time back at the house enjoying the space together. Here are some of our favorite ways to enjoy it.

Start Your Morning Slow

Wake up before everyone else, pour a cup of coffee, and step outside. Listen to the birds, watch the trees sway in the breeze, and enjoy a few quiet moments before the day begins. Sometimes the best mornings are the ones with no agenda.

Cook Breakfast Together

There’s something special about everyone gathering in the kitchen while breakfast is cooking. Pancakes on the griddle, bacon sizzling, coffee brewing, kids sneaking bites before everything makes it to the table.

Have a Game Tournament

Challenge each other in the game room with pool, foosball, corn hole, darts, arcade games, cards, or board games, and even a volleyball game outside. Keep score all weekend and see who earns bragging rights before it’s time to head home.

Gather Around the Fire

Roast marshmallows. Tell stories. Laugh until your cheeks hurt. Some of the best conversations happen around a campfire.

Have a Movie Night

After the sun goes down, bring everyone inside for a movie night in the theater room. Grab blankets, make popcorn, and settle in for one of those evenings that everyone talks about long after the trip is over.

Fire Up the Grill

After a day of exploring, keep dinner simple. Throw burgers, steaks, or hot dogs on the grill, set the table outside, and enjoy a meal that doesn’t have to be rushed. Good food always tastes a little better in the fresh air after a long day.

Unplug and Reconnect

Play one more board game. Teach the kids your favorite card game. Listen to music while dinner cooks. Talk a little longer after dessert. These are the moments that don’t make it onto an itinerary, but somehow become everyone’s favorite part of the trip.

Create a Tradition

Every family has their thing. Maybe it’s pancakes every morning. Maybe it’s a movie outside on the last night. Maybe it’s taking the same family photo on the deck every year before you head home. Whatever it is, we hope Green Acres becomes a place you come back to again and again. A place where new traditions begin and old ones continue.
